Identifying a Good Garage Door Technician
Our Work - 11/16/2011

The differnce between a Good Garage Door Technician and a "Guy That Fixes Garage Doors":

A Good Garage Door Technician has...

  • The Brain of a Mathematician. It may come as a shock, but garage doors are no simple equation. Unless you walk into a garage and automatically start calculating and crunching numbers, you should leave your garage door repairs to the Professionals. They have the skills to simply look at a garage door and calculate anything from the dimensions/segments to the number of screws and hinges you need. This skill may be taught or even acquired, but it is a skill that ensures you will be getting the perfect spring for your door.
  • The ability to “Pay Attention to Detail.” Garage door repair isn’t “monkey business.” A good technician is very orderly in his/her work. They can locate every part they need down to the nuts and bolts. They keep themselves and the equipment safe. This could mean anything from wearing required safety gear, to locking up the equipment overnight. Make sure your technician is very particular about their work and appear professional and “in order”. Note to self: When repairman shows up 15 minutes late, their dashboard is covered in papers, they have coffee spills on their shirt, and they are licking their fingers to fix their bedhead…you may have encountered a “guy that fixes garage doors.”
  • The mentality of the “Energizer Bunny.” A technician’s work is never done. They jump from one job to the next. There are always jobs arising and many with different requirements. A technician must be both, mentally and physically prepared so that they can “keep on goin’, goin’ goin’” to fix the poor job the last “garage door guy” did.

A Guy that Fixes Garage Doors has...

  • A Brain. They can think and figure out how to do the calculations if you give them time and a calculator, but you still end up getting the wrong spring.
  • Inability to “pay attention to detail.” They often misplace parts, leave their work space a mess, don’t use common safety precautions, and are unorganized.
  • Lack of Motivation. They show up late to the job, take a 2 hour lunch break, leave early, and leave jobs unfinished and things often “slip their mind.”
  • A good technician on speed-dial.
